Not everyone cashed in on Vow and Declare’s unexpected victory, but they all felt like winners as they danced with joy on the field of Flemington at the Melbourne Cup.
Punters appeared to be having a great time as the festivities carried on after the horses crossed the finish line on Tuesday afternoon.
At least 81,000 spectators piled into the racecourse to see Vow and Declare claim victory, with glamorous women wearing high heels and hats charging in early to secure the best view of the track.
As the day wore on, racegoers became more relaxed with bright grins on their faces as the sunny weather and good cheer made up for empty wallets.

He had a bit of difficulty getting to his feet afterwards, but his pride didn’t seem to be much dented and everyone seemed impressed with his skills.
Another man was seen attracting looks by standing on a wheelie bin while yelling down to the crowd around him.
Elsewhere, some amorous couples locked lips as they lounged on the grass after a romantic day out – no matter the readings on their betting slips.

But it wasn’t all fun and games as a few were seen being helped across the venue after suffering unfortunate mishaps.
Others indulged a bit too much and had to lighten their stomachs in the many wheelie bins scattered around the racecourse.
As the celebrations came to a close, punters looked a little worse for wear with many woman taking of their shoes and relaxing on the grass.
Victoria Police said six others were arrested, four for enjoying a little too much prosecco, one for drug possession, and one who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Police and AFP will also investigate a drone which was seized due to unauthorised entry into the racecourse’s airspace.

The day got off to a hectic start as eager punters pushed their way through the gates in the hope of securing the best spot to view the track.
It didn’t take long for the drinks to start flowing, with punters seen quaffing Champagne and knocking back beers mere moments after the gates opened at 9am.
The ladies were accompanied by dapper men in suits and ties, some carrying newspapers, others bearing cooler bags filled to the brim with snacks and supplies for the day’s revelry.

Vow and Declare, a home-grown Australian horse that no-one wanted and was given away to friends and family upstaged international rivals to take out the greatest prize in Australian racing.
Jockey Craig Williams rode the gelding to a famous victory, netting his owners $4.4million of the total $8million prize money on Flemington’s hallowed turf.
A Noosa-bred thoroughbred, Vow and Declare was offered up to the nephew of the horse’s breeder Paul Lanskey – who had originally failed to find a buyer wanting to stump up the $60,000 reserve at auction.
