Outlander ballet dancer dubbed next 'Billy Elliot' dies at 14

Child star dead at 14: Ballet dancer Jack Burns who was dubbed the next ‘Billy Elliot’ and starred in TV hits Outlander and Plain Sight dies suddenly

A ballet dancer dubbed the next Billy Elliot has died suddenly at the age of 14. 

Jack Burns was found dead at home in Greenock, Inverclyde in Scotland on December 1, and tributes have poured in from shocked friends and family. 

The cause of the teenager’s death is unclear, but police say they are not treating it as suspicious. 

Jack was an accomplished dancer, winning a place at a prestigious Glasgow ballet school at the age of nine and a role in hit TV series Outlander in 2014.

He also appeared in ITV thriller Plain Sight, starred opposite Duncan James of Blue and was part of several BBC productions.

He attended St Columba’s School in Kilmacolm and leaves behind mother Karen, father Robert and brother Rory. 

Jack also worked as a model, fronting campaigns for global brands through his contracts with The Model Team in Glasgow. 

News of his death was shared on the Facebook page of Elite Academy of Dance.

A statement read: ‘It is with a very heavy heart that we write this post. Tragically as you know we lost our much loved student Jack Burns on Sunday 1st of December.

‘Jack was an inspiration to everyone at Elite and touched the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of working and dancing with him since 2012.

‘We and all of Jacks family and friends are naturally completely devastated and at a loss for words and answers.

‘Jacks family wish to let everyone know that his funeral service will be at at 10.00 am at St Mary’s Church, Patrick Street, Greenock, on Thursday 12th December.

‘Karen, Robert and Rory would love if those from his Elite Family that knew and loved Jack as much as they all do wanted to attend. They would also take much comfort if students wish to attend in Alba or Elite Hoodies and sit together on Thursday.

‘Our studio will be open at 9.00 am on Thursday for those wishing to attend.

‘All our thoughts and prayers at this time are with Jacks immediate family and friends but especially with his parents Karen, Robert and his brother Rory.’ 

Shocked friends took to social media to pay tribute to the tragic 14-year-old.  

One wrote: ‘Jack was such an amazing boy and he did not deserve the stuff he went through.

‘He never ever wanted to hurt anyone, there was not a bad bone in his body. I’m absolutely heart broken that I have lost someone who meant so much to me and many more people.’
